Echoes of War: A Family’s Unbreakable Bond by Rudy Galfi published in 2025, is an amazing (nonfiction) story of a family during the WWII era in Europe.
The characters in the book were family members of the author. Their journey was one of determination, courage, survival, and the desire for something more than what was in front of them. They endured what no human being should have to experience, yet they were the lucky ones.
Echoes of War was very interesting. The author made you feel like you were living during this era, yet you were always wondering what the outcome would be. I especially liked the strong family connection, and the helpful, compassionate people they met along the way.
After reading this book, I came away feeling even more grateful to live in America. We are living in the land of opportunity, and can in many cases, be the master of our own fate.
I would recommend this book for anyone. If you enjoy nonfiction, and want to know how this family endured challenging times (to say the least), during WWII, go ahead and read their inspiring story. You won’t want to put it down!

It’s movie material!! It’s full of survival stories that were frightening and emotional beyond words. I was scared for your mother and sister as I read the book….It made me swell with pride knowing how they survived impossible odds. It was a relief to read that the family survived.
It was an emotional read that made my eyes leak, and happiness prevailed.

Such a lovely read about a family’s hardship during war times. Their love for each other is what gave them the fortitude to continue when their world was no longer in their control.
